Jesus did this for Us!
Isaiah 53

1 Who ahas believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
And as a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness;
And when we see Him,
There is no beauty that we should desire Him.

3 He is despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

Undignified in Nicaragua

UNDIGNIFIED IN NICARAGUA APRIL, 2009

For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was in prison and you came to me….

They are the poorest of the poor. Even their own countrymen despise those who live on the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua. They are the forgotten. They are the nonessential. They are those we came to serve.

Day 1: Monday, April 13

Everyone showed up at JFK International Airport bright and early at 4:15 A.M. Monday morning April 13th to begin our next adventure in Puerta Cabezas. We had been preparing for this trip all year, and we were confident that our skits, clowning, dramas and yes, even our building skills would serve us well. Some who had been on the team from the previous year’s trip reminisced about the team’s favorite hammer, “Old Hickory” that everyone wanted to use to build the houses.

We had so many bags of “stuff” with us that we were somewhat afraid that we wouldn’t be able to bring all of the crafts supplies. Anyway, we were going to be building…maybe we could leave the supplies home if we had to? How about that huge bin with the travel cross? Did we want to pay an extra hundred dollars to ship it? We got all the bags on not even beginning to realize that the Lord had everything planned out. We didn’t know the plan; but He surely did.

We were ready to go!

A Practically Perfect Day?

The New York City streets echoed with the singing of Smithtown Christian School students April 1st, when the Music Department went on their annual trip. An assortment of Promise, Joyful Noise and Heart Strings members and chaperones rode the train into the city with the expectations of having a wonderful day and were not to be disappointed.

Going for the Gold

SCS Competes at the Physics Olympics!

On Friday, March 13, 5 members of Mr. Thies’ AP Physics class went to Farmingdale State College to compete in the Physics Olympics, sponsored by the Long Island Physics Teachers Association. The students were Audrey Anderson, Mark Drzymala, Alanna Foerth, Kristy Roman, and Yilin Zhang.

The team did well for its first time out and really enjoyed the day. They placed high in the Constant Acceleration event and fairly well in the Projectile Launch event. Next year we’ll be even stronger!

Pajama Day

“The Cat’s Pajamas” Brings Christmas Spirit to SCS

The halls of Smithtown Christian School were filled with secondary students dressed in their very best Christmas “jammies” for a dual purpose. And it wasn’t just the students who “got down and comfy” that day! Teachers and the administration gladly participated.
Whatever could have possessed Mrs. Bambino to allow such a departure from the SCS dress code?

It all started on November 14th when a group of secondary students, teachers and administrators went to the World Vision AIDS Village at Arandaum Presbyterian Church in Hicksville. That church and Shelter Rock Church of Syosset hosted World Vision’s moving and eye opening reenactment of a child’s journey through the fears and realities of living with AIDS; either having it themselves or being orphaned because of their parents’ succumbing to that horrific disease. The students who participated were convicted to not merely feel the pain of others and pray for them, but to put their compassion into tangible action. And the idea was born to have a very different kind of dress down day without the usual jeans and T- shirts, and go all out and to feature pajamas, sweat suits, and slippers. But could they raise the annual $840.00 necessary to support two children?

Promise Sings at Fortunoff's

Promise Singers Sing in Westbury!

In conjunction with radio station Fresh 102.7fm, the Promise Singers from Smithtown Christian School were invited to sing at Fortunoff in Westbury on December 6, 2008. Twenty-one students were present, and they sang three twenty minute sets of Christmas carols and music from their recent Christmas concert. It was a tremendous outreach at a time when secularism seems to overshadow the true meaning of Christmas.
